Sustainable Cleaning: Tincture London

I am a clean freak – nothing makes me more relaxed than a spotless home. However, my love of clean surfaces had frequently resulted in the abandonment of rooms due to the chemicals in the products I was using (Cillit mould remover I am looking at you). Additionally, the hazard labels on the back of each bottle, especially the one with the dead tree and fish, always made me feel extremely uncomfortable. If this product is capable of poisoning the environment what was it doing to its users? [1]

I wanted to find a non-toxic, sustainable alternative to traditional cleaning products. Numerous websites recommend using vinegar and baking soda concoctions but I didn’t want to use this on every surface as I didn’t want my flat smelling like a chippy at the end – my partner also hates the smell of vinegar.

After a few searches I came across Tincture London – a UK company that creates 100% natural, sustainable and non-toxic[2] cleaning products. All their products are developed in the UK which cuts down transport emissions. I purchased the Bathroom Set with an additional bottle of the Bathroom Tincture as it is said to kill 99.999% of bacteria. The Bathroom Set contained

The set arrived a few days later in beautiful packaging – no plastic wrap or packing beans. The bottles are beautifully designed which is great as the intention behind them is for them to be kept and reused. The price was more expensive than what I would normally spend on supermarket cleaning products but I was happy to pay this if it meant saving my health and the planet.

My verdict

Bathroom TINCTURE – It has a lovely citrus fragrance and I didn’t need to evacuate the shower due to toxic fumes whilst using. I tested it on my toilet, sink and shower. Overall I was happy with the result on the toilet and sink – it removed any soap build-up, toothpaste and signs of limescale. It worked well on the shower except on the grout where a small amount of black mould had started to grow. Even with a few sprays and a good scrub, I couldn’t get the grout back to white.

A quick tip – the spray nozzle of these cleaning products lock (which is great if you have kids). Just be sure to unlock them before using them by twisting the top around until the arrow aligns with the spray hole (I don’t think that this is the technical term but you get the gist haha).

Glass Mirror Steel TINCTURE – Another great smelling product, although I can’t quite put my finger on the fragrance. I tested this on my taps, mirrors, cooktop and stainless steel appliances and it was amazing! Toothpaste came straight off the bathroom mirror, the cooktop and taps looked as shiny as new.

Floor Concentrate TINCTURE – Again, the smell was great! I was sceptical about whether these products would smell good and I was pleasantly surprised – even my partner who hates the smell of cleaning products loves the Tincture range. We have tiles in the bathroom and wood laminate flooring in the rest of the house so I tried this product on both. It worked wonders on both surfaces and left a streak-free finish.

After using these products for a few months I would still recommend all three, my only caveat being that the Bathroom Tincture is good for 99% of bathroom surfaces but you will need something stronger for mould.
